ECDL
The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is the world's most successful IT skills certification programme. There are almost three million people participating in the programme in over 60 countries worldwide. The ECDL sets a standard for almost everyone who uses a computer in either a professional or personal capacity. It is a qualification that proves competence in computer use, making the holder readily mobile within Ireland and internationally. Employers and jobseekers all recognise the importance of having this standard definition of practical competence in Information Technology. For many students going to third level education, competence in IT is essential. Many colleges include IT as a first year module. Students who have a qualification in ECDL are often exempt from this module thus leaving them valueable time to concentrate on other studies and make a significant financial saving.
